Freshwater

Freshwater resources in Africa are insecure in quantity and quality, and water resource development is a high priority for governments and international donors. We are developing grantmaking initiatives in Freshwater data and information systems to support conservation and development. We aim to address the urgent need for better freshwater biodiversity assessment and access to freshwater biodiversity data by all stakeholders.

Pollinators

Pollination is critical to sustaining human nutrition and agricultural livelihoods, yet studies show a widespread global decline in pollinator biodiversity. In Africa, the conservation sector lacks the baseline data, effective monitoring methods, information services, and evidence of pollinator status and value to influence policy. Our Pollinator Biodiversity Program aims to increase the accessibility and quality of pollinator biodiversity data through a long-term investment in collecting baseline data, developing technologies and methods to do so, and creating data sharing platforms relevant at regional and local levels.

Capacity

Our goal is to expand the tools and processes used to collect, manage, and disseminate biodiversity data and information in sub-Saharan Africa. That makes capacity-building the over-arching focus of the Foundation. Our other two Programs in Freshwater and Pollinator Biodiversity are intended to drive and sustain biodiversity informatics capacity.
