JRS grantee Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG) recently concluded their second year of their project, Biodiversity Data Collection and Training Conservationists in East and West Usambaras, Tanzania . With the goal to regenerate natural forest corridors connecting the largest and closest forest fragments in the biodiverse Usambara Mountains, this project also builds critical local capacity for conservation practices.
The project uses seeds from native tree species for the seedling nursery established for the TFCG project, collected from the Magamba Nature Reserve in the West Usambara Mountains and germinated them within a nursery. The nursery has produced more than 200,000 seedlings which are then planted to revegetate gaps between the largest and closest forest fragments within the Magamba Nature Reserve. Charles Meshack, the Project Director and Executive Director of TFCG, shares photos from this successful second year taken in the field.
