Professor Guy Midgley, interim director of the School for Climate Studies and professor in global change biology in the Department of Botany and Zoology at Stellenbosch University, recently received the Green Economy Award. Established in 2015, The Green Economy Award is given in recognition of outstanding work in trans-disciplinary research or human capital development that promotes environmental sustainability within an academic or non-academic context. The award was announced at the prestigious 2021/2022 National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF)-South32 Awards. The NSTF-South32 Awards, known as South Africa’s “Science Oscars”, honors the contributions to science, engineering, technology (SET) and innovation.
Professor Midgley was recognized for his tireless and influential work and research in biodiversity issues, climate change and the human relationship with the environment at an awards ceremony on July 21.
