We are delighted to shared the news that JRS grantee Association for Water and Rural Development (AWARD) was recently awarded the 2023 RISK award for their project entitled A Holistic Early Warning System for Climate-induced Water Insecurity in the Transboundary Inkomati River Basin, South Africa in collaboration with AWARD’s partners, the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) and the City of Mbombela.
The RISK award is jointly organised and judged by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Munich Re Foundation. The 2023 RISK award focused on early warning systems, particularly in building resilience to climatic risks. It was endowed with €100,000 in project funding and AWARD’s proposal was the winning proposal out of more than 200 submitted proposals.
The INWARDS system underpinning AWARD’s proposal was co-developed with JRS funding.
