Jacob Richard Schramm was the founding editor of Botanical Abstracts and its successor, Biological Abstracts in the 1920s (Photo: Marine Biological Laboratory Archives). Biological Abstracts, later BIOSIS, was sold in 2003 and the proceeds of that sale became the JRS endowment.
